Mr. Dhirendra SinghIndependent Director
Mr. Dhirendra Singh was a member of the Indian Administrative Service which he joined in 1968 and from which he retired in 2005 as the Union Home Secretary. He belonged to the Karnataka Cadre where he served in various capacities in the Departments of Finance, Planning and Agriculture and Rural Development amongst others. He served on the Boards of a number of State Government undertakings and was the Chairman and Managing Director of the Mysore Electrical Industries and Vikrant Tyres. During his tenure in the Government of India he served in the Cabinet Secretariat, the High Commission of India in London, and as Special Secretary and Secretary in the Ministries of Defence, Finance and Home Affairs.
Post retirement he was a Member of the Commission on Center State Relations which was chaired by a former Chief Justice of India, Justice M M Punchhi. The Commission submitted its report in March 2010. In 2015 he was appointed to chair the Expert Committee to recommend procurement procedures for Defence Equipment and for the flagship programme of ‘Make in India’ of the Government of India for Defence Equipment. The report has been submitted and many of its important recommendations acted upon. He was also the President of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies a leading Think Tank till 2012. He is currently a distinguished fellow of the Centre for Air Power Studies and on the Advisory Council of the Vivekanand International Foundation.
He holds a Masters Degree in Political Science from the University of Allahabad and a Masters Diploma in Public Administration from the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi.
